{life is divine chaos. embrace it. breathe. and enjoy the ride...} solbeam

We express ourselves eveyday...smiles, quiet tears, shrugs, a knowing glance...and it is so beautiful. It's what makes us human; it's what makes us unique.

I am so lucky to be a part of the beauty that is life...one moment at a time. Every day is filled with excitement, quiet moments and big adventures...I wouldn't trade it for the world.

So, thank you for visiting...I hope you stay awhile and come back often. Oh, and don't forget to leave me a message or two...I love to hear from you! Enjoy the show and live life out loud!

With Love,

Rachel

Liz and Paul

June 27, 2009

Blue Hill, Maine
Creative Designer and Wedding Planner: Liz Denny
Wedding Executor: Maria Dalton
Reception: A Moveable Feast
Flowers: Fairwinds Florist

As I hover over my keyboard thinking about what to say about Liz and Paul’s wedding, I am overcome with emotion. Sometimes there are truly no words to convey a moment in time. It is so pure of heart that it just has to be experienced.  This day, their wedding, was such a time. It was filled with family and friends that have shared the most important times of Liz and Paul’s lives. It was steeped in heritage and memories that form the people they are today. It was elegant and textured with no detail left untouched. It was a reflection of who Liz and Paul are. Beautiful people - inside and out. It was such an honor…thank you Paul and Liz!

2010 Senior Model - Hillary from Greely High School

This summer has been quite a challenge finding the sun…but we managed to grab the one perfect day we have had in June.  Add in Hillary’s warmth and easy going spirit and we just had a fantastic session! Hillary was up for exploring about and finding some great locations. She didn’t mind trekking through meadows (filled with bees!) or kicking around the sand on the beach even though it was still rain soaked damp.  Her kind nature, genuine smile and contagious laugh are truly a joy! Thank you so much for enduring the bees, puddles, wind, sticky sand and even the admiring oogling from the audience at the beach. You look incredible and I had a hard time picking just a few for this blog!

Amy Bedard - What a wonderful cluster of artistry Rachel!!!

out of the studio…

I will be out of the studio from Friday, June 19th through Tuesday, June 23rd. Have a wonderful weekend and I’ll talk with you soon!

{You are you. Now isn’t that pleasant?} Dr. Suess

jbd-3blogMy daughter turned 4 yesterday and I just don’t know how that happened. One day I’m taking this tiny little wrapped up bundle home looking impossibly small in her newborn clothing and car seat…then the next I’m watching her run around crazy with her friends…long legs and hair flying, big grin perma-plastered to her face.

When did this happen?

I love seeing all my children at each of the stages of their lives but I am, as always, in awe of just how quickly they grow. So, grow my beautiful girl and remember:

  • don’t grow so fast that you don’t have time to enjoy each and every day to it’s fullest.
  • laugh out loud and from your belly often.
  • hugs are free and wonderful to share openly.
  • always be true to who you are and don’t let anyone or anything define you. You are unique and that is wonderful!
  • live your life fully and with no regrets.
  • allow yourself to feel all emotions even if they make you uncomfortable…emotions make us human.
  • smart is great! It’s not about how you look but what’s inside that brain.
  • share your heart, spread your love and have fun!

Happy birthday Julia, I love you always…

Grammy Barb - Julia is our princess! Full of life and the happiest child every single day.

{I do…cherish you, from the depths of my soul…it’s beyond my control} 98 Degrees

Now anyone who has photographed a wedding with me, or gone to a wedding for that matter, knows that I am just a big blubbering baby during the ceremony. There’s something about the emotion of it all and the awe that overcomes you when you watch two people promise themselves to each other and face forward to journey into life together. Mandi and Brett’s wedding hit me particularly hard because there was just so much love and emotion that overcame many people there. I REALLY need to start bringing tissues with me to the ceremony! My husband phrased it well when he said “they are just one…you can feel it. ” True, true…

Mandi and Brett, it was an honor and a joy to share in your wedding day! Thank you from the bottom of my heart…

Amanda and Simon
May 24, 2009
Damariscotta, Maine

…or in the case of Amanda and Simon - three bodies, theirs along with their beautiful daughter Avalee. Every now and then you meet people with such genuineness of spirit and bonded love with one another that you can help but feel a sense of happiness just being in their presence. This is Simon, Amanda and Avalee…

From the moment Simon saw Amanda walk through the doors of the church, he was filled with emotion and it was the same for her. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house during the vows.  It’s inspiring to watch the love they have for each other and for their daughter but along with that they genuinely love being in one another’s company. The deep laughs, the eye contact, the happiness…

Amanda and Simon, thank you so much for having me share your day and for the chance to get to know you all!

Megan and Kurt

May 23, 2009

Migis Lodge, Casco, Maine
Flowers: Marcia Davis
DJ: Danny DiBiase
Honeymoon: the Greek Isles

I knew I was going to really like Megan and Kurt from the first moment I spoke with them. Of course I had complete and utter travel envy because of all the amazing places they have already explored in their lives. Their free spirited, witty and open nature drew me in, as I suspect it does many people, and I fell into instant ease of conversation with them. Their love and dedication to each other is evident in the the little interactions as well as the larger gestures. From Megan flying back from France for Kurt’s Ironman to the subtle glances Kurt gives Megan when she’s not looking…yes, Kurt, I caught you quite a few times!

Thank you both for sharing your amazing wedding and inspiring us with your genuine love for one another!

Alyssa - Rachel, the photographs are wonderful! I am glad you were able to so beautifully capture my big sister's (and brother in law's) big day!

Megan and Kurt - Hello from Santorini! We are finally at a computer and were able to see your fabulous work. We love the photos, you really captured the day. I'm looking forward to seeing more in June... (by the way, you should add Greek Isles to your list of 'must visits'!) Talk to you soon! Megan and Kurt

Annie Ryberg - Rachel, these photos are GORGEOUS! I can't wait to see them all!

2010 Senior Model - Jordan from Gorham High School

I have to say, this may be the most fun shoot I have ever done…and the most adventurous! We took that sense of adventure and decided to roam around Gorham looking for cool spots and backgrounds. Jordan was so easygoing and open to ideas that it was just a blast! To say that she is photogenic is a ridiculous understatement as she is simply gorgeous and that translated to the camera easily.

But Jordan carries that beauty to her inside as well. As the current Miss Maine Teen USA 2009 she has given of her time generously and is always looking for ways to give back to the community. In addition to her studies and varsity cheering she works avidly for the Best Buddies Program and the Maine Special Olympics.  Recently, Jordan was selected, out of hundreds of applicants, to participate in the Special Olympics World Games. As a former teacher and special needs advocate, I find the work she does inspiring and truly wonderful!

{You may have the universe if I may have Italy}…Giuseppe Verdi

Andrea and Jacob
Orvieto, Italy

Every now and then, in life, we have those incredible days…the ones that make you so happy that your toes curl! Andrea and Jacob’s wedding day was, simply put, unbelievably special. The ceremony was in the medieval hill city of Orvieto…an Etruscan city that was first established in 283BC. Everywhere you looked there were reminders of a world so much greater than us, steeped in history and yet so beautiful in it’s simplicity.

We followed Andrea and Jacob into town where the residents welcomed them from the streets, windows, shops…raining congratulations and warm wishes on them…as they made their way to the Piazzi di Communale to be married…evidence of the warmth that radiates from the people we were blessed to meet throughout our travels there.

Afterwards, at the Locanda Palazzone,we soaked up the late Italian light which, from what I can see, is the most amazing light in existence. Roaming through the vineyards and the grounds, at that moment, there was no other place I could imagine being and no other finer company I could imagine being with than Andrea, Jacob and their family. Exquisite family, exquisite country…

Jacob and Andrea, thank you so much for allowing us to share your journey!
